Navigating the world of fertility can be overwhelming

Especially when you're figuring out which blood tests to get.

I get it. You feel lost. Stuck staring at a maze of information about fertility. But you're not alone.

Here's the thing. To get an understanding of your reproductive status:

• Get the right tests
• Test on the right day of your cycle
• Get the right person to interpret them

Test, don't guess

There is no such thing as a "fertility test".

Rather, a whole bunch of tests form a clear roadmap. Combined they offer insights into your reproductive health. By providing clues about the status of your hormones, nutrient levels, and overall well-bring. All of which plays a crucial role in achieving pregnancy.

The amount of tests you can request range from simple to very complex.

Start Simple

My advice is to start simple and speak to your practitioner about symptoms you have. They highlight what's going on! If your practitioner doesn't want to hear all the details, it's time to look for a second opinion.

Fertility Checklist ✅

This is a comprehensive checklist of fertility-related blood tests to consider:

  1. Reproductive hormones
These Hormones need to be done on a certain day.

Day 2-3 of your cycle:

• LH (luteinising hormone)
• FSH (follicle stimulating hormone)
• estradiol
• prolactin
• AMH
• androgens if you suspect PCOS

7 days post ovulation:

• estradiol
• progesterone

  1. And other essential tests
These can be done any day.

• Iron studies
• FBE (full blood examination)
• B12/folate
• TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)
• Vitamin D
• Electrolyte panel
• Fasting insulin, Fasting glucose
• LFT's (liver function test)
• Zinc
• Homocysteine
• MTHFR gene
• Coeliac gene + antibodies

Timing is Key

For optimal accuracy, blood tests should be performed in the morning after fasting. Avoid caffeine and exercise before you test.

Interpretation Matters

The final piece of the puzzle is finding the right person to help you interpret them. A practitioner that specialises in fertility can decipher your test results. They can create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. And make sure you're taking the correct supplements at an effective dosage.

Optimise Your Fertility with Optimal Ranges

Remember, for optimal fertility we want your blood test markers to fall within the healthy range. Not just within the low end. Aim for optimal health, not just average.
