The real cost of choosing the wrong IVF specialist

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

Do you feel let down by your specialist?

If you don't have trust in your team, the emotional tax is exhausting. Continual failed cycles leave even the most determined of us feeling stuck. So how do you level up your support team?

Don't stick with a specialist that's not right for you. It leads to more failed cycles, more money and more heartbreak.

It's not too late to get a second opinion.

The doctor you need isn't who your friends are seeing.

And isn't necessarily who your GP referred you to. Appointments can be emotional, but should feel like catching up with an old friend. Even if the news isn't great there should be a sense of compassion and support. Feeling tearful and frustrated is a red flag that needs to be actioned.

If you're

• Doing cycles on repeat with the same protocol
• Feeling like a number not a person
• Feeling like every person that calls you hasn't read your file

It's time for a change.

Find people you trust.

What do you want in an IVF specialist?

Take the time thinking about what your ideal person will be like. I like blunt people because there's no reading between the lines with them. But that's not everyone's cup of tea. Compassionate doctors that are happy to 'guide' and not 'tell' exist. You just need to know that's who you're trying to find.

Create a list of your particular needs.

Find out if they genetically test embryos to screen for a condition that runs in your family. Or if they sub-specialise in auto immune therapy if your research has led you that way. Finding the right clinic and the right doctor for your needs is vital.

Trusting your IVF specialist means less stress during your cycle.

It's important that you can have the hard conversations. Transparency about procedures and costs.

And realistic outcomes.

Thanks for reading.
